Dual-role transvestism

여장이나 남장을 하여서 일시적으로 반대 성별에 대한 소속감을 느끼면서 만족을 얻는 증상을 말한다. 이들은 성욕을 느끼기 위한 것이 아니며, 영원히 반대 성으로 살고 싶어하거나 성전환 수술을 받고 싶어하지 않는다.

바이젠더와의 연관

정의상 이중역할 의상도착증은 바이젠더를 언급하는 것이기는 하지만^[1] 바이젠더나 젠더플루이드와 지칭하는 범위가 같다고는 할 수 없다.

성전환증과의 관계

의상도착적 페티시즘에서 이중역할 의상도착증으로, 다시 성전환증으로 발전하는 사람도 있다고 알려져 있다. 다만 다른 성전환자와는 달리 성기에 별다른 불만이 없으며, full time으로 생활하는 성별을 바꾸는데 성공적으로 적응했음에도 성전환 수술을 원치 않는 경우가 있다.^[2]
