가환환 [math]\displaystyle{ R }[/math]에 대해 항등원 [math]\displaystyle{ 1_R\ne 0_R }[/math]이 존재하고 임의의 두 원소 [math]\displaystyle{ a,b }[/math]에 대해
- [math]\displaystyle{ ab=0 \Rightarrow a=0_R \text{ or }b=0_R }[/math]
- [math]\displaystyle{ \mathbb{Z} }[/math]
- [math]\displaystyle{ p }[/math]가 소수일 때, [math]\displaystyle{ \mathbb{Z}_p }[/math]
- (소거법칙) 정역 [math]\displaystyle{ R }[/math]의 원소 [math]\displaystyle{ a,\;b,\;c }[/math]에 대해 [math]\displaystyle{ a\ne 0_R }[/math]이고 [math]\displaystyle{ ab=ac }[/math]이면 [math]\displaystyle{ b=c }[/math]이다.
- 위 조건을 만족하는 정역 [math]\displaystyle{ R }[/math]의 임의의 원소 [math]\displaystyle{ a\in R }[/math]에 대해, 곱셈에 대한 역원 [math]\displaystyle{ a^{-1} }[/math]이 [math]\displaystyle{ R }[/math]에 존재함을 보이면 된다.
- 따라서 [math]\displaystyle{ 1 = ab = ba }[/math]인 [math]\displaystyle{ b\in R }[/math]이 존재한다.
