곡선의 곡률

호의 길이로 매개화된 정칙공간곡선 [math]\displaystyle{ \alpha }[/math]에 대해,

[math]\displaystyle{ \kappa(s)=\|\alpha''(s)\| }[/math]

를 [math]\displaystyle{ \alpha }[/math]의 곡률(curvature)이라고 한다. 일반적인 매개변수 [math]\displaystyle{ t }[/math]로 매개화된 곡선 [math]\displaystyle{ \alpha }[/math]의 곡률은

[math]\displaystyle{ \kappa(t)=\frac{\|\alpha'(t)\times\alpha''(t)\|}{\|\alpha'(t)\|^3} }[/math]

이다.
